Sedar and Sea Creatures!

Hello family and friends,

It's been a great week in the Tzemach class! We've had a lot going on this week but we've been able to continue our ocean study. We aren't finished yet so we will let this exploration roll over into the week after Spring Break. We're so happy that the kids are enjoying their study of the sea life! Our school also had our big NAEYC re-accreditation this week, which we're sure went great! We also enjoyed a Sedar meal with Morah Devorah, along with some fun lessons done by Ms. Daizah!

To continue our sea life exploration, we've been working hard to make some 3D sea creatures. Thank you for all the wonderful recycled items that you provided us with! The kids really got into this project. Some chose to work alone while others helped each other out. The kids took different recycled materials and large paper to shape and mold the sea creature they've become experts on. This was a great way for us to further explore their creatures. We were able to focus on the shape and size of these animals, as well as their unique physical characteristics. We are still in the early phases of these creations. Everyone now has a creature formed. After break, we will work to finalize these by painting them and making sure they look exactly the way the kids want them to. I encourage you to check out our first phase of these creatures in the hallway. They look great! The kids took so much time to create them and I just love how they have turned out. After we complete them, we will be hanging them on the ceiling of the classroom. I'm pretty sure this is the part the kids are most excited about :)

We have also been learning a lot about Pesach the past couple of weeks with Morah Devorah. We've been learning the Passover story, as well as working on Sedar plates and enjoying some games related to the holiday. To wrap up our learning, we met with the 3 year old class in the large area outside of the preschool hallway. There were 2 tables set with grape juice, Sedar meals, and name cards. The children washed hands together and sat with friends. As we ate, Morah Devorah led us through the Pesach story and taught us the importance of each item we were eating. We also sang songs and socialized. It was such a sweet time. The kids loved being able to eat at a large table together and getting to play with the 3 year olds.

We also had a couple of lessons taught by Ms. Daizah this week. She taught us a math and a social studies lesson. During the math lesson, we learned about the words "more", "less", and "equal". Her goal was to have the children understand these words and be able to use them when talking about numbers. She introduced a new game to us that involved the kids comparing numbers and using special hand signals that represented "more", "less", and "equal". The kids played the game with her in a large group to the hang of it. Afterwards, she broke the class into groups and had them play on their own while she made laps around the room to encourage and guide them in their play. For her social studies lesson, she taught the children about immigrants. We learned that all of our families came from different countries at some point in our history. We also looked at maps of the world and talked about how far some of these travels may have taken our ancestors. She also spoke to us about being kind and considerate to all people, no matter their nationality. Ms. Kelly was able to come in and watch this lesson with us. It was a fun time of exploring the world and learning how to treat one another. Ms. Daizah's last week with us will be the week after Spring Break. We have so enjoyed her time with us!!

It's hard to believe that Spring Break is here and we're almost a month from the end of school. This year has flown by! As a reminder, Spring Break is from April 10-18. We will resume school on Wednesday, April 19.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break! I can't wait to see what your sweet kiddos come up with to learn about after our return!

Love,
Ms. Rachael
